In the beginning of March Verizon released a press release stating that they were introducing HomeFusion Broadband; a new internet service for your home that delivers high speed internet, thanks to Verizon’s 4G LTE network. The idea behind this new service is to provide people that live in rural areas with limited internet connections another option, as opposed to dialup, satellite or nothing at all.
Verizon’s HomeFusion Available Nationwide
Earlier this week Verizon issued another press release stating that their HomeFusion service will be available nationwide on Thursday, May 3rd. 2/3 of the nation will be able to receive coverage.
What is HomeFusion & How Does it Work?
HomeFusion doesn’t use cable or phone lines like other internet connections do; it’s wireless. It uses a cylinder shaped antenna that attaches to the side of your home. The insides of this device contains multiple antennas so that the best 4G LTE signal is picked up.
Starting from the antenna, a cable runs into your home and is connected to your router. From your router you can run 4 fixed lines to your computer(s), and up to 20 different devices, such as your phone, tablet, laptop or video game system, can connect wirelessly. Speeds will range from 5 to 12 Mbps for downloads, and 2 to 5 Mbps for uploads. This crushes dialup speeds, is on par, if not better than DSL and is much faster than satellite, and it’ll be more reliable, too.
Pricing is based on data only, and there is no unlimited data plan. This is what the data plans will look like:
- 10 GB – $60
- 20 GB – $90
- 30 GB – $120
The equipment will set you back $199.99, but the installation will be free. There is a 2 year activation required. All new activations will receive 50% more data (relative to their plan) for the first two months.
